I filati hanno fatto sempre parte della mia vita, fin da bambina. A casa c’erano tante ceste di fili che la nonna lavorava ogni giorno. Presto ho cominciato anch’io ad avvicinarmi al lavoro a maglia. 

  Una sera, nel 2008, ho pensato che non avevo più voglia di lavorare i filati in modo tradizionale, ma che sarebbero potuti diventare una risorsa importante per la creazione di “gioielli”. Le mie collane, orecchini, anelli, segnalibri e portachiavi sono interamente  fatti a mano con filati di lana, ciniglia e cotone e perle di vetro, resina, legno o argentone. 

Ho iniziato un po’ per gioco ma sin da subito ogni singola creazione  si è rivelata una forma di espressione autonoma dove l’estetica cromatica dei filati intrecciata con la mia memoria  di bambina rivelava la mia creatività e la mia anima di sognatrice un po’ retrò.

  Nel 2010 le Lune di Lana sono arrivate in un bellissimo negozio di Firenze, in zona Santo Spirito, “Quelle Tre”. Nel 2012 è uscito un articolo su Il Nuovo Corriere di Firenze “Francesca Cantini e le sue storie di intrecci: collane come lune di lana”. Nel 2014 poi a fare curriculum è arrivato anche il Museo del Tessuto di Prato: sono stata contattata dal responsabile del bookshop e anche adesso le Lune sono in vendita anche lì.

  Nel 2014 ho iniziato sempre un po’ per divertimento a fare mercati. Nelle mie bancarelle espongo sia le mie creazioni che il materiale con cui vengono realizzate per mostrare il fascino della materia. Mi piace portare le ceste con i filati e mostrare ai passanti come nascono i prodotti artigianali, la manualità che sta dietro al prodotto finito.  Inoltre i mercati sono sempre un’occasione di incontro, di confronto con gli altri, di gioco ed è proprio durante questi appuntamenti che nascono le idee migliori. 

  Nel 2015 le mie creazioni si sono estese anche verso l’arredamento, rendendo i filati sempre gli unici protagonisti.  Sono nati così i “Lumi di Lune di Lana”, paralumi di diverse forme, dimensioni e colori, con il telaio interamente rivestito con filati di lana, seta o cotone, che  permettono di rinnovare una vecchia lampada o crearne una nuova ed unica.  Alcuni, adatti alla sospensione, possono diventare dei bellissimi lampadari. Come tutte le mie creazioni anch’essi sono animati da una personalità particolare :  ci sono quelli vintage, quelli moderni  e quelli più romantici.

Yarns have always been a part of my life since I was a child. There were many baskets full of threads at home, and my grandmother worked with them every day. Soon I approached knitting too.

  One evening, in 2008, I thought that I no longer wanted to work the yarns in the traditional way, and that they might become an important resource for the creation of "jewels". My necklaces, earrings, rings, bookmarks and keyrings are entirely handmade with wool, chenille or cotton yarns and glass beads, resin, wood or nickel silver.

I began just for fun, but right from the start every single creation turned out to be a form of self-expression, where the color aesthetics of the yarns, woven with my little girl memories, revealed my creativity and the soul of a retro dreamer.

  In 2010 the Wool Moons arrived in a beautiful shop in Florence’s Santo Spirito area, "Quelle Tre" (Those Three). In 2012 an article appeared in Florence’s New Corriere, "Francesca Cantini and his stories of weavings: necklaces as wool moons". Then, in 2014, the Museum of Textile in Prato enriched the résumé: I was contacted by the manager of the bookshop and to this day Moons are on sale there, too.

  In 2014 – again, just for fun - I started to sell at markets. I expose in my stalls both my creations and the material they are made from, in order to show the charm of the fabric. I like to take along the yarn baskets and show passersby how craft objects are born, the manual skills behind the finished product. Furthermore, markets are always an opportunity to meet, to compare, to play, and it is during these meetings that the best ideas come to one’s mind.

  In 2015 my creations extended to the furniture field, still with yarns as the only protagonists. So the "Lamps of Wool Moons" were created, lampshades of different shapes, sizes and colors, whose frames are entirely covered with wool, silk or cotton yarn, making it possible to renew an old lamp or create a new and unique one. Some of them, suitable to be suspended, can become beautiful chandeliers. Like every creation of mine, each of them has its own personality: some are vintage, some are modern and some are romantic.
